The Build

Before Pictures of my ArrowShark

Here are some pictures of my ArrowShark before I decided to change it around. As you can see in the pictures below the color has changed, it was first painted yellow and then I painted it silver. I also decided to change the look of the Engine and Hardware from purple and Raw Aluminum color to Highly Polished and some Custom Etching on a few parts.

The ArrowShark Hull

The ArrowShark comes with a ride pad on the Keel of the hull and after running it a few times, I decided to take the ride pad out of the hull. I made the Keel sharp using some fiberglass and some fininshing autobody filler. I started running the boat with the rudder directly behind the prop, not a good setup on this boat, it chined walked really bad when it got up to speed. I have read many threads on Jims RC Boat Dock and found out that by putting the rudder off to the side it will help in the chine walking, so I put the rudder off to the side. I also decided to change the routing of the water lines off of the rudder and put the water outlets on top of the hull instead from the side. I didn't want the pipe bracket to show since the pipe was going to get some etching done on it so I made a custom pipe mount using a rubber engine mount. A small bracket will be welded to the bottom of the pipe and it will bolt up to the engine mount. The engine mount can then be unbolted from the hull by taking the bolt out from the back of the hull. The layup of the canopy is on the thin side so I built up the sides and around the cutout on top with some more fiberglass.

The Radio Box

When I bought my boat I read an article on Model Gas Boats about no tape radio boxes. My first box was a tuperware bowl with lid, It worked but didn't look quite right so I bought a Dr. Bucks box from Gas Parts Plus and the following pictures are the end result of that purchase. The servo mounts and servo horns were polished from Extreme Customs. I didn't want to drill any holes in the lid so I put an antenna mount from Bonzi Sports on the side of the box and another one on the hull with a piece of nitro fuel line between them. I then routed the receiver antenna through the tubing. An antenna tube is then pressed into the nitro fuel tubing to create a water tight seal for the antenna. The radio box is then bolted down to the hull.

The Fuel System

When I first bought all of the parts for my ArrowShark I purchased a hard tank for it from Bonzi Sports. It worked very well but took up alot of space infront of the motor. I run a Fuel Bag from American RC Boats in my Rigger and loved the way it worked, and NO SMELL!!!! I have since then taken out my hard tank and added a Fuel Bag to this build.

The Extreme Polished Hardware

Ok were do I start? To begin let me give you a list of manufacturers I used in the hardware section. The trim taps are from Speedmaster, the turn fins are from a seller on Ebay, and the strut and rudder are from Bonzi Sports. Earlier in the build I mentioned that I moved the rudder from directly from behind the prop and strut to the right of the prop, well to make that happened I used two Bonzi Sports strut and rudder brackets. The first bracket, I used for the strut, was modified by cutting off the rudder section just behind the strut to create a stand alone bracket. The second bracket, I used for the rudder, I changed the look of the bracket just a little. I cut a section out of the bracket from the strut hole to the first opening in the bracket. I took the water inlet fittings from the top of the transom, like the photos in the before section, to directly inline with the rudder bracket to make a clean install. The turn fins were located on the left and right side on the hull at 90* to the running surfaces of the hull. The trim tabs were placed on the hull about 1/16 above the ride surface of the hull. After all of the holes were drilled into the transom I sent all of the hardware to Extreme Customs for Polishing and Etching treatment. I had Extreme Customs etch some Flames onto the rudder blade. Check out the pictures below.

The Extreme Polished Engine and Pipe

On to the Power Plant. The Engine started off as a Bonzi Sports BZX4 with clutch. I have since then had the motor remodified by a gentleman here in Germany. After talking with Dave at Extreme Customs I decided to send the entire engine case to get polished along with the rest of the parts. Extreme Customs also etched some flames on top of the cooling cap to match the rudder blade. The Pipe! Well it is a Super Quiet Pipe from BH Hanson. I also sent the pipe to get polished and etched.
